Little paradise, I love Koh Rong Samloem!
Before saying more, I want to explain to you what Koh means. Koh means island in Khmer and Rong Samloem is the name of the island, so it means Rong Somloem island.
Early this year my husband and I visited this Koh for the second time and it was wonderful. Every day for one week lying on the beach drinking coconut juice enjoying the view and going into the water was pure joy.
The island is so clean, the people who live and work there are taking good care of the beach. Every morning many of them would wake up early to clean up trash that was coming up the shore. Because of them visitors like me can enjoy the time there.
I was on Koh Rong Samloem with my husband for the new year 2014. At the time the island had fewer people, it was not just beautiful, but it was very calm and quiet. We had perfect time there, that was the reason that we went there again.
A bit sad though this time, a lot has changed, more people, more houses, hotels and guesthouse are being built on the island. As a result, this impacts people's lives and nature. More trees are getting cut down, fewer animals and more plastic bottles and bags from the increasing population. Even with these changes, Koh Rong Samloem still my recommend island in Cambodia to visit.
See some photos from my last trip below.
I hope you believe me now that I think of this island as little paradise, with the proof of the charming white sand and even for the dog ;)
What can you do there? Well, I would say being lazy. Get into the water as many times as you can! You can also have a little walk to the other side of the island called The Lazy Beach (side note: at The Lazy Beach there is only one restaurant, but the food there is guaranteed delicious)- Have a short hike to the lighthouse tower or visit other nearby islands and go snorkeling.
If you have been working hard and like to have a little time for yourself, this would be the perfect lazy spot.
